A Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) Samiran Chandra Das was killed when his police vehicle lost control and collided with a tree in Mahasahasra area of ​​Rajnagar upazila in Moulvibazar. Six policemen, including two accused, were injured. The accident took place at 5 am on Saturday (May 21) at a place called Mahasahasra on Moulvibazar-Fenchuganj road.

The deceased was identified as Samiran Chandra Das, a sub-inspector (SI) of Rajnagar police station.
According to police and local sources, Rajnagar Police Station SI Samiran Chandra Das, S Shawkat Masud Bhuiyan, SI Soleman Ahmed, ASI Jahangir Alam, Constable Masud Mia, Constable Aziz Hossain were returning to the police station in a police pickup van after completing their regular duties in the northern part of the area. On the way, their pickup van lost control and collided with a tree at Mahasahasra on Fenchuganj Road in Moulvibazar.

When the locals informed the fire service, the members of the fire service rushed to the spot. Locals and members of the fire service rescued the policemen and sent them to the 250-strong Sadar Hospital in Moulvibazar. Later, the doctor on duty declared SI Samiran Chandra Das dead. At the same time, SI Shawkat Masud Bhuiyan, Constable Masud Mia and Constable Aziz Hossain were sent to Sylhet Osmani Hospital as their condition was critical.

Eyewitness Iqbal Hossain, a resident of Mahasahasra village, said, “We came to the spot when the police pickup van lost control and hit a tree.” I came and saw 8 injured policemen and three others. We immediately called the fire service and the members of the fire service actually rescued the locals and sent them to the hospital. ‘

Moulvibazar District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Zakaria said, “Police personnel lost control of the vehicle as the road was slippery due to rain on the way back with the accused.” Police SI Samir was killed in the incident. The three have been shifted to Sylhet Osmani Hospital in critical condition. How the incident happened will be known after a detailed investigation.
