Five agricultural workers were killed in a truck-truck collision at Salanga in Sirajganj. The accident took place in the early hours of Thursday (May 26) at Goja Bridge No. 1 on the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway.
The deceased have been identified as Makul Hossain, 35, son of Abdul Majid of Chhotapaka village under Bagatipara police station of Natore district, Monir Hossain, 34, son of Abul Hossain, Maqbool Hossain, 35, son of Jamir Uddin of Basabaria village of the same police station, Abdul Halim son of Ijal Haque and Jumaigar village of Gurudaspur Haider Ali, 40, son of Abdul Quddus.
Hatikumrul Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Lutfar Rahman said the Lagunati was heading towards Natore with passengers from Hatikumrul Roundabout on Thursday morning. When the Hatikumrul-Bonpara highway reached Goja Bridge No. 1 area, it collided head-on with a truck loaded with stones coming from the opposite direction. Four people were killed and six others were injured on the spot. The injured were shifted to Sirajganj and Rajshahi hospitals. Another died later. The Laguna and the truck involved in the accident have been kept in the custody of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station. Preparations are underway to hand over the body to the family.
