Former mayor of Dhamrai municipality Nazim sentenced to four years in prison

Dewan Nazim Uddin, former mayor of Dhaka’s Dhamrai municipality, has been sentenced to four years in prison by a Dhaka court on charges of acquiring assets outside knowledge and concealing information.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-9 pronounced the verdict in the presence of the accused on Sunday. After the verdict was announced, he was sent to jail on a warrant.
ACC lawyer Rezaul Karim Reza and ACC court inspector Ali Akkas confirmed the matter.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined Tk 29,17,844. Besides, 29 lakh 17 thousand 744 rupees earned in dishonest way was confiscated in favor of the state.
On the other hand, under Section 27 (2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004, he was convicted and fined one lakh rupees and sentenced to three more months imprisonment without pay.
On January 23, 2019, ACC Deputy Director Monirul Islam filed a case at the ACC office alleging acquisition of assets outside the known income and concealment of information. On August 23, 2020, the ACC filed a chargesheet against him in the court.
