The center of Cyclone Midhili has started crossing the coast of Bangladesh. It will cross the Mongla-Payra coast near Khepupara in Barisal. Meteorologist Manowar Hossain of the Directorate of Meteorology confirmed this information at around 2:30 pm on Friday.
Manowar Hossain said that Cyclone Midhili is now crossing the coast. Its tip touched the coast around 12 noon today. The center or core of the cyclone has also started crossing the coast. The crossing may be over by evening.
Meanwhile, shelters have been prepared in the coastal districts to deal with possible damage from the cyclone.
Members of the volunteer team are miking and urging residents to go to shelters. Around 2000 men and women have taken shelter in different shelters till 12 noon in Sharankhola of Bagerhat.
289 permanent and temporary shelters are ready in Lakshmipur. 64 medical teams including Coast Guard rescue boats have been kept ready to provide medical care during the cyclone.
It is raining heavily and gusty wind is blowing in Barguna since morning. The water of various rivers has increased.
Parimal Samaddar, a resident of Barguna Sadar’s Lakurtala area, said, “The people of our region are in fear due to the cyclone. If it rains in torrents like this, then there will be huge damage to the crops.
Residents of Charkashem, an estuary island in Bay of Bengal, are in trouble due to lack of shelter.
More than two hundred families live on the island of about three thousand acres. There is no educational institution here. As a result, cyclone shelters were not built.
Hawa Begum, a resident of Charkashem, said, “We have to stay here during storms.” I came to Keoragacha with a drink during Sidor, Aila book. There is no wapda, our house sinks in the tidal water.
Meanwhile, due to the cyclone, boat traffic from Dhaka’s Sadarghat to the southern region has been stopped. Apart from this, as the Meghna and Tentulia rivers are raging in Bhola, all types of boat traffic has been suspended on the Bhola-Laxmipur, Bhola-Barisal and Bhola-Dhaka routes from 12 noon.
