The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified the spread of monkeypox through male sexual intercourse.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has been collecting data on monkeypox from 23 member states since May 13 this year.
The data collected so far in most cases have no established travel connection with any local area and are presented through primary care or sexual health services. Detect confirmed and suspicious cases of monkeypox where there is no direct travel connection with any local area. The initial outbreak of preliminary cases reported by countries to the WHO shows that the cases were mainly data collected among men having sex with men (MSM). An outbreak of monkeypox in a non-native country is considered an outbreak. The sudden emergence of monkeypox occurs simultaneously in several non-native countries, which may lead to temporary undiagnosed infections for some time, as well as recent exacerbations.
The current issue of Outbreak News is an update to Outbreak News published before May 21. This version provides information on recently published WHO guidelines for outbreaks. Background information, such as epidemiological descriptions, remains largely unchanged.

Description of the outbreak

As of May 28, a total of 256 laboratory confirmed cases and about 120 suspected cases have been reported to the WHO. No deaths have been reported.

The situation is developing rapidly and the WHO expects more cases to be identified as surveillance expands in non-endemic countries, as well as in countries known locally that have not recently reported cases.

Immediate action should focus on the following:

Provide accurate information to those who may be most at risk from monkeypox.
Stop further spread among at-risk groups.
Protecting front row health workers.
