Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, SBP, OSP, NDU, PSC, PhD today visited Bogra Area Agricultural Production Competition-2022.
He also visited Bogra Army Medical College and observed the progress of the project and planted trees on the college premises. He later released fish fry at Station Boat Club Lake.
At the time, he highlighted how this special initiative of the army was contributing to the national gross domestic product. The Chief of Army Staff visited various places and activities of Bogra Cantonment. He then laid the foundation stone of an officers’ quarters in the cantonment. Among others present on the occasion were Lieutenant General Md. Saiful Alam, Quartermaster General Maj. Gen. FM Zahid Hossain, Acting Engineer-in-Chief and Maj. Gen. AKM Nazmul Hasan, GOC, 11 Infantry Division and Area Commander Bogra Area.
All areas / formations of the Army are being used in seasonal unused and fallow lands for agriculture under the direction of the Chief of Army Staff in implementing the Prime Minister’s landmark step towards achieving food self-sufficiency – ‘not even an inch of land can be left uncultivated’. Forests, herbs and fruit trees have been planted in all the uncultivated lands of the cantonment, even in every nook and cranny of the house. Various varieties of seasonal and baromasi fruits and various types of seasonal vegetables are being cultivated in the open space. Ponds and wetlands are being used for fish farming and poultry farming. In addition to different types of farms, horn and tilapia fish are being produced using bioflock method.
Inspired by the Prime Minister, the special initiative of the Chief of Army Staff will play an important role in maintaining self-sufficiency in agro-based food production in all cantonments. The Bangladesh Army will continue its efforts to ensure the health of the people and achieve the goal of sustainable development through the transition to commercial agriculture.
