BNP has called a nationwide strike on Sunday and Monday in protest against the announcement of the upcoming 12th National Assembly election schedule. BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced this in a virtual news briefing on Thursday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Democracy Forum has called for a 48-hour nationwide strike to demand the cancellation of the schedule of the 12th National Assembly elections and as part of a simultaneous movement by one party. Apart from this, the People’s Rights Council has also called for a 48-hour strike on Sunday and Monday.

After the EC schedule was announced on Wednesday evening, the leaders and activists of BNP and allied organizations held an immediate protest march in the capital. Democracy Manch, Jamaat-e-Islami, My Bangladesh Party-AB Party also protested. In a short rally after the protest, the leaders of the Democracy Forum said that today they will hold a nationwide strike program in addition to the blockade.

Earlier, the BNP-Jamaat and their partners held a strike on October 29 and a three-day blockade program on October 31, November 1 and 2 to protest the attack, killing and arrest of leaders and activists in the last October 28 mass meeting and a one-point demand for the resignation of the government.

Then on November 5 and 6 in the second phase, November 8 and 9 in the third phase, November 11 and 12 in the fourth phase of the siege. The fifth round of blockade has started from 6 am on Wednesday. This program will end at 6 am on Friday.
