Two policemen were killed when a CNG-driven auto-rickshaw overturned in Faridpur. Besides, three other policemen including the driver are reported to have been seriously injured. The accident took place at the Pukhuria bus stand on the Faridpur-Bhanga-Barisal highway today at 5:30 am on Friday.
The deceased policemen are Naik Nazmul and Constable Nasir Hossain of Bhanga Highway Police Station. Constables Zakir Hossain, Ibrahim Hossain and Mithwaiching Marma were injured. The name of the injured autorickshaw driver was not immediately known. On receiving the information, teams of Bhanga Highway police station, local police station and fire service conducted rescue work at the spot. The injured have been admitted to Faridpur Bangabandhu Medical College and Hospital.
According to police and fire service sources, five policemen left for Faridpur Madukhali in a CNG-powered autorickshaw from Bhanga early in the morning to take part in the annual firing exercise in Faridpur. On reaching Pukhuria bus stand, the autorickshaw lost control and overturned. Two people were killed on the spot. The driver and three other policemen were seriously injured.
Eyewitness Rahman, Babla Kabir said that the road was slippery due to rain. A speeding police auto-rickshaw overturned at the Pukhuria bus stand with a sudden loud bang. At that time, some policemen got stuck inside. One fell on the CNG T road. Both died on the spot.
Locals told the imam of the mosque that the brick kiln and houses were taken to the house and the road was slippery due to the sudden rain. Driving these illegal vehicles on highways is always risky.
